Beaujolais Dupeuble 2013

Member Review by scottmagick:

My first experience of 2009 Beaujolais, and regrettably, I was let down. Overwhelming butter popcorn hits the nose first, hiding layers of wildflower, raspberries, truffles, anise, hard cheese rind and a light herbaceousness. Across the palate comes stronger notes of minerality, blueberries and violets. The alcohol was too high for me for Beaujolais at 12.5%, and this wine definitely comes out hot. I should have given this wine more time to open up, but I was thirsty. There are many great flavors in this wine, but it lacks balance.

This is no ordinary Beaujolais Nouveau. It has some real substance going on with aromas of black fruit and even a dash of tannins. Made in a style that's second to none and it's this wine that will destroy the sometimes-true myth that Nouveau can't be taken seriously.

This domaine has been producing wine since 1512 as indicated on the capsule and continues to impress hundreds of years later. Their Gamay tends towards darker fruit with ripe tannins making it a perfect pair for wild fowl.
