Beaucanon Trifecta 2001

Winemaker's Notes:

Ehlers Lane/Oakville/Longwood History Of Excellence - 2001 Vintage - 92 Points: Wine Enthusiast April 2007 GOLD: New World Intl. Wine Competition GOLD: Taster's Guild Intl. Competition - 2000 Vintage - "HIGHLY RECOMMENDED": Beverage Testing Institute SILVER: San Francisco Chronicle Tasting BRONZE: Japan Intl. Wine Challenge Winemaker's Notes With the second vintage of Trifecta we have really hit our stride. With the perfect fruit of a great vintage, this wine can't be beat and is already garnering raves! Trifecta boasts an intricate nose of ripe blackberry, currant and red apple aromas, with touches of mint, licorice and rose petals that will keep your swirling and sniffing for ages. The mix of French and American oak, 70% new, shows up in the background as dusty cedar notes. Full flavors of red apple, cherry and rhubarb fruit with sweet cinnamon spice dominate the front palate, deepening into darker, richer tastes of mocha and black cherry preserves. The palate shows the intensity of the vintage with a light, mouth-watering acidity and gripping tannins that prolong an elegant finish. Drinking beautifully now, this young, bright wine has the perfect balance to compliment pastas in a rich ragu, grilled seafood and exotic Asian flavors that will highlight the wine's floral characteristics. As the wine ages over the next 5-8 years, pair it with simple seared steaks and braised dishes that will stand up to the complex tannins. For this gorgeous blend, the grapes are sourced directly from our three estate vineyards; with Cabernet Sauvignon from St Helena Ehlers Lane vineyard, Merlot from the prestigious Oakville vineyard and Cabernet Franc from our Longwood Napa Estate property. The various soil types and microclimates lend themselves to this complex and seamless wine is definitely more than the sum of its parts! Situated in beautiful Napa Valley, on the historic Longwood Ranch, Beaucanon Estate reflects the proud history and experience of the de Coninck family of St. Emilion. Our vineyards provide outstanding grapes that, with the blessings of nature and the knowledgeable hands of an experienced Bordelaise winemaker, become epic and uncommon wines, expressing the intense fruit quality of California along with the balance and elegance of Bordeaux. The descendents of Jacques de Coninck are carrying forward the tradition of the family and its winemaking heritage. Louis de Coninck creates our wines with an emphasis on structure, mouth-feel and the luscious flavors of Napa Valley fruit. Like all great winemakers, Louis excels at highlighting the natural characteristics of perfectly ripe fruit, without resorting to popular techniques that emphasize tannins or alcohol. Aging takes place in carefully selected barrels and creating the final blend to produce wines of such intriguing complexity requires an intuitive and delicate touch. The result is concentrated, richly flavored and balanced wines that are pleasant and engaging when young, and only get better with maturity. Read less

Great wine! hints of oak, dark cherry, and earthy flavors. Very well balanced wine! The aroma really comes out when allowed to sit for 20 minutes or so.. Dark fruit overtones but there are hints of subtle dill, oak, and sage aromas! I cannot say enough about this wine.. From start to finish this is a really nice wine and very hard to beat for the price...
