Beaucanon Estate Cabernet Franc Napa Valley 'L Cuvee' 2001

Winemaker's Notes:

History Of Excellence - 2001 - 90 Points: Anthony Dias Blue SILVER: San Francisco Chronicle Comp. SILVER: Tasters Guild Intl. 2006 - 2000 Vintage - SILVER: San Francisco Chronicle Comp. Winemaker's Notes Our newly-released third vintage of Cabernet Franc is all we hoped it would be. 2002 was a perfect year for our kind of wine; a long, cool growing season with a couple weeks of heat towards the end to get the sugars up and we get a wine with elegance, depth and intensity. This deep-garnet wine has a beautiful, classic nose of violets, rose leaf, cocoa, blueberry and black plum fruit with a delicate layer of toasty vanilla. It is incredible that a wine this smooth and balanced contains such intricate flavors. Smooth, lightly gripping tannins propel flavors of ripe black plums and currants accented by underlying notes of tobacco and darjeeling tea. Sweet-tart blueberry and smoky, meaty flavors resonate through the amazingly persistent finish. This wine is truly a mouth full of joy! With balanced tannins and a touch of acidity that lightens the rich fruit, this wine makes for fool-proof pairing. With dishes from duck, pork and ribeye to lasagna or Indian, you can relax and savor flavors you didn't think were possible! 100% Estate Grown, Produced and Bottled Tech Sheet for Trade Shelf Talkers for Trade 2001 was a great vintage for classic, well-structured wines. A cool spring followed by a long, warm growing season resulted in perfect flavors with none of the over-blown characteristics of a hot year.

Situated in beautiful Napa Valley, on the historic Longwood Ranch, Beaucanon Estate reflects the proud history and experience of the de Coninck family of St. Emilion. Our vineyards provide outstanding grapes that, with the blessings of nature and the knowledgeable hands of an experienced Bordelaise winemaker, become epic and uncommon wines, expressing the intense fruit quality of California along with the balance and elegance of Bordeaux. The descendents of Jacques de Coninck are carrying forward the tradition of the family and its winemaking heritage. Louis de Coninck creates our wines with an emphasis on structure, mouth-feel and the luscious flavors of Napa Valley fruit. Like all great winemakers, Louis excels at highlighting the natural characteristics of perfectly ripe fruit, without resorting to popular techniques that emphasize tannins or alcohol. Aging takes place in carefully selected barrels and creating the final blend to produce wines of such intriguing complexity requires an intuitive and delicate touch. The result is concentrated, richly flavored and balanced wines that are pleasant and engaging when young, and only get better with maturity. Read less
