Beaucanon Cabernet Sauvignon 2000

Winemaker's Notes:

History Of Excellence - 2000 Vintage - GOLD: Critic's Challenge 2006 GOLD: San Francisco Chronicle Comp. 2006 SILVER: Tasters Guild Intl. 2006 SILVER: New World Intl. Wine Competition - 1999 Vintage - "Highly Recommended": Beverage Testing Institute "One Puff": Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wines 89 POINTS: Wine News SILVER: Japan Intl. Wine Challenge - 1998 Vintage - 92 POINTS "Highly Recommended": Wine Enthusiast 90 POINTS "Exceptional": Beverage Testing Institute GOLD: West Coast Wine Competition GOLD: San Francisco Chronicle SILVER: San Francisco Int'l Wine Comp. SILVER: Los Angeles County Fair - 1996 Vintage - 89 POINTS "Highly Recommended": Wine Enthusiast 88 POINTS: Wine Spectator 2000 Winemaker's Notes This is the fourth release of our limited Jacques de Coninck Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, a tribute to our founder and the hallmark of Beaucanon Estate. Despite the rigors of the vintage, this wine showcases all the best qualities of weighty, young Cabernet. Restrained at first, the nose blossoms in your glass into aromas of black cherry blueberry and plum with a tang of minerality, herbs and dusty earth. A hint of sweet alcohol adds a high note and richness. On the palate the wine is big and brooding, a sleeping monster with dark, savory flavors. Blackberry and leather is the first impression, unfolding to reveal a softer side of cinnamon, cedar box and cigar spice, thanks to toasty, new French Oak. Tannins are velvety but fine and gripping and lead to a long, elegant finish with hints of mocha, wood and sweet orange. A light acidity combined with the firm tannin will see this wine aging beautifully for the next 8-12 years from release. Shelftalker for Trade Tech Sheet For Trade Months in barrel: 24 Oak: French

Situated in beautiful Napa Valley, on the historic Longwood Ranch, Beaucanon Estate reflects the proud history and experience of the de Coninck family of St. Emilion. Our vineyards provide outstanding grapes that, with the blessings of nature and the knowledgeable hands of an experienced Bordelaise winemaker, become epic and uncommon wines, expressing the intense fruit quality of California along with the balance and elegance of Bordeaux. The descendents of Jacques de Coninck are carrying forward the tradition of the family and its winemaking heritage. Louis de Coninck creates our wines with an emphasis on structure, mouth-feel and the luscious flavors of Napa Valley fruit. Like all great winemakers, Louis excels at highlighting the natural characteristics of perfectly ripe fruit, without resorting to popular techniques that emphasize tannins or alcohol. Aging takes place in carefully selected barrels and creating the final blend to produce wines of such intriguing complexity requires an intuitive and delicate touch. The result is concentrated, richly flavored and balanced wines that are pleasant and engaging when young, and only get better with maturity. Read less
