Bearboat is a wine based out of the Russian River Valley in Sonoma, California. The name plays on the theme of the Russian River - the bears, the symbol of Russia, are in a rowboat on the river. The principal winemaker is Raphaël Brisbois, an Alsatian who originally worked for several fine Champagne houses before coming to the states, where he worked for sparkling producers including Iron Horse. He began making still wines at Bearboat for Remy Cointreau in the mid 1990s. The wines are sourced from vineyards throughout the Russian River Valley and Sonoma, using cool-climate varietals best suited to the region’s growing conditions such as Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Syrah, Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc.
