What to Expect

Cabenet Sauvignon: Originally of French origins, this versatile grape produces exceptional wines around the globe. It's usually medium to full bodied with a fine structure that supports black and red fruit flavors with typical notes of olive, chili and herbs that add complexity.

Winemakers Notes

"Bright ruby-red. Plum, redcurrant, smoked meat and sweet, nutty oak on the nose. Dense, sweet, ripe and primary, with soundacidity giving shape to the almost liqueur-like black raspberry flavor.Boasts very good texture and sweetness and finishes with serious, building tannins."88 pointsBy Stephen Tanzer, Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar, Nov/Dec 07"The 2004 "Ode to Merriment" is a tributeto our Merriment, our Walla Walla Valley Proprietary Blend. The 2004 "Ode to Merriment" is a tribute to our Merriment, our Walla Walla Valley Proprietary blend. Due to the freeze, our Estate vineyard Pheasant Run Vineyards did not produce in 2004. Our goal was to find the very best fruit possible. This wine was aged for 20 months, 65% new french oak, 35% two year old barrels. It is aromatic and ripe with a rich and dense mouthfeel. Scents and flavors of cherries, plums, cedar and espresso. It finishes with long, silky tannins. This is a wine that will reward you for the next 8 to 10 years.

This gorgeous Bordeaux-style blend is deep red in color, and has a plush, velvety texture. Normally from Estate fruit, the 2004 Ode to Merriment is from purchased fruit but is no less delicious.

This is a balanced and well structured wine that should cellar well. Visit the Basel Estate, in Walla Walla, it is absolutely gorgeus.
