Bas Armagnac Vsop

Winemaker's Notes:

The Guasch family have been in Gascony since the 12th century. They have owned the château at Bordeneuve since 1974 and are one of the region’s largest courtier and negociant operations. Today the father-and-son team of Jean-Claude and Thomas look after viticulture, vinification and distillation. Bordeneuve has 30 hectares dedicated to vineyards; 75% are ugni blanc and the rest baco. The Domaine is unique as all its production is distilled into armagnac instead of wine with its ancient short column still producing up to 50-60 casks of new spirit annually. Each year’s production is aged on its own and then blended when bottled; their own distillate is augmented with other armagnac distilled and aged to Jean-Claude’s directions. The vintages are all bottled unblended. This award-winning Armagnac VSOP spent 6 months in new oak followed by a seven year period in old oak, endowing it with a beautiful clear amber, almost gold, colour. It offers fantastic floral notes, with distinctive plum and soft vanilla on the palate. It is the perfect after-dinner drink, though equally fantastic in cocktails or used in recipes, for example Crèpes flambées à l’Armagnac, so enjoy!
