Suggested Recipe Pairing presented by
Coconut Rice Sweet Potato Cheesecake

RiceSelect's creamy Arborio gets blended with sweet potato, coconut milk and vanilla to create this decadent cheesecake. Pairs well with Saunternes; a white dessert wine that has hints of coconut from aging in oak barrels.

Admittedly, the cute label actually set the bar low since I figure often the money spent on label design is making up for actual wine quality. So I approached it with scrutiny since I got it for $11. At first, it didn't seem like a pinot noir, but like a lot of cheap pinots, off balance with sharp astringency vs. sugariness. Some air after sitting in the glass for an hour mellowed it, but nothing showed quality. However, the next night after being sealed up, it paired well with dinner and I realized it had a nice strawberry-like taste. Not real strawberries, more like candy strawberry, but subtle anyway, and the off flavors were gone. All in all, it would make an great casual gift wine for the casual wine drinker.

It is a tradition in France to meet at the local bistro to relax, socialize, drink wine and dine in a casual friendly setting. The Bistro varietals, consisting of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon, have all the right qualities of good bistro wines : simple, delicious, fun to drink, and excellent with lots of different foods and flavors!
