1 year in large wood A little tarry on the nose and rich with black fruit, black plums, earth, sweet medicinal notes and a little minty top note. On entry this is tight and focused with really deep fruit that tastes like old vines. A bit of alcohol intrudes early on the palate but the great acids kick in adding cut and definition leading to a long finish with attractive spice and dried floral accents. This would be great with a rare steak pick a fatty juicy cut like a skirt steak. 91pts

A big an juicy wine with crisp acidity. Cherry and roses on the nose with a hint of barnyard that keeps it rustic. Cranberry and cherry fruit with mushroom and an earthy fresh finish. Drinking this is like sipping a refreshing glass of (not too sweet) punch on a summers day. This may not be what I expected from the bottle but it sure is fun.

Second time trying this bottle and after a great performance the first time I'm finding it very closed and too acidic on this night. Maybe just a phase. The fruit on the nose is ripe strawberry. On the palate a little raspberry but very short.

Winemaker's Notes:

"Bright, dark red. Sappy cherry and flint aromas are complicated by smoke and leather nuances. Rich, fat and silky-sweet, with smoke, mineral and spice notes giving this wine considerable complexity. Finishes with sweet, fine-grained tannins and good acidity and grip." -Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar
