Bartolo Mascarello Barbera d'Alba 2006

Member Review by Eric Guido:

A big an juicy wine with crisp acidity. Cherry and roses on the nose with a hint of barnyard that keeps it rustic. Cranberry and cherry fruit with mushroom and an earthy fresh finish. Drinking this is like sipping a refreshing glass of (not too sweet) punch on a summers day. This may not be what I expected from the bottle but it sure is fun.

The members of the Giuseppe Mascarello family have been growing wines for more than a century and a half, first as farmers running the Manescotto estate in the village of La Morra for the marchesa Giulia Colbert Faletti di Barolo, and then on their own property since the late 1800s. Second time trying this bottle and after a great performance the first time I'm finding it very closed and too acidic on this night. Maybe just a phase. The fruit on the nose is ripe strawberry. On the palate a little raspberry but very short.
