Mendocino County was the first in the country to ban genetically engineered grapevines and other crops in 2004. At age 85, Charlie Barra has been leading Mendocino County in producing good wines of good value from organic grapes. Charlie's family immigrated from Piedmont, Italy in 1910 and his families had worked in the vineyards of Italy dating back since 1800s. While working with Karl Wente and Robert Mondavi in the 60s, Charlie was one of the first growers on the North Coast to plant Chardonnay, Riesling, Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Noir.
Barra of Mendocino wines are made with 100% certified organic, estate-grown grapes from the Mendocino appelation. Our family-owned vineyards, which date back over fifty years, are located at the headwaters of the Russian River.
