Barossa Valley Estate Shiraz 2015

Member Review by rckr1951:

Blackberry and Damson plum are primary fruit aromas, with spice (pepper), dusty Barossa earth, zesty acidity and a tannic profile to match. This was very, very, good. Drink now - 90 points - Paul

Barossa Valley Estate (BVE) was formed in 1984 by 80 third and fourth generation grape growers who took control of their destiny by forming a co-operative and produce their own wine. Combining their skills and blending their grapes from across the Barossa Valley, they rode out the hard times and built for the future. Every BVE wine is made in the reflection of our world-famous E&E Black Pepper Shiraz. Crafted from 100% Barossa Valley fruit our wines highlight the true expression of the richness and character of the region. In 1984, the consumption of red wine was declining. Offering handsome subsidies, the federal government urged growers to pull out their ancient Shiraz vines and replace them with Chardonnay. But there were 80 third and fourth generation Barossa Valley grape growers who refused. Stubbornness became their strength. Instead of trying to sell the grapes to winemakers for little reward, they decided to take control of their own destiny by forming a cooperative and making their own wine. Barossa Valley Estate (BVE) was formed. Read less

Darkest black cherry in color. A preserved, somewhat cooked nose - typical of heavily extracted Shiraz numbers from Oz. Exceedingly vinous on the forward palate with almost no hard tannins remaining; coca-cola, cherry phosphate and Maraschino Cherry notes on the flavor profile. Medium to longish finish. Excellent BBQ wine but somewhat overdone - if that is the proper word...

Medium-bodied, but intense and long, with lovely definition to the black cherry and plum fruit, showing no hint of thickness or sweetness; fine tannins sustain the long finish. James Halliday. A Syrah wine from South Australia in Australia. 2004 Barossa Valley Estate Ebenezer Shiraz 750ml

This is one of Australia's top sparkling Shirazes, and this will be the first vintage it's being imported to the U.S. in commercial quantity (150 cases). It's chocolaty and rich, with flavors of brandied cherries and brown sugar. Drink now-2010. - J... Wine Enthusiast.
