($105; according to importer Ben Hammerschlag, from vines ranging from 109 to 152 years of age) Dark red. High-toned, smoky aromas of cherry preserves, dark plum, blackberry and cured tobacco. There's great power to the ripe fruit flavors but also a sense of elegance thanks to subtle acids. Impressively dense and almost sweet on the palate, with sexy (American) oak spice tones adding complexity to the sweet, powerful dark berry qualities. The finish is spicy, vibrant and seductive, offering notes of creme de cassis and sweet tobacco. (Epicurean Wines, Seattle, WA)
