Barons de Rothschild Legende R 2005

Winemaker's Notes:

In 2005, there was very low rainfall. Despite the rain and storms in August, the overall conditions were very good: cool night temperatures and sunny periods during the day helped the grapes reach perfect maturity. A very good vintage. Colour: Crimson with good intensity Nose: Elegant and complex with discreet woody and toasty notes dominated by floral (potpourri) and spicy aromas. Mouth: Concentration and balance with ripe, ample and blended tannins. A long aromatic finish.

Bouquet of tobacco, pomegranate, cherry and eucalyptus, strong tannins and a full body of cherries and plums with a fair bit of acid that makes the mouth water. The finish is soft and full with creamy stonefruits.

This had been open for a bit, but very well-integrated fruit, acidity and tannins, to make a tasty, nice-drinking wine. May still need some time to really shine.

Not much complexity, but with a lot of qualities rarely found in an inexpensive Bordeaux. Black fruit, leather, cedar. Very smooth.

Nice hint of clove on the nose. Full fruit on the palate and a really long finish. A little tight now, so it could use the decanter.

Baroness Philippine de Rothschild, of the legendary Château Mouton Rothschild estate, created this collection to honor her ancestors, and dedicated this particular wine to Baron Nathaniel de Rothschild, who founded Mouton Rothschild in 1853. With strong, dark fruit and nicely developed tannins, this wine is an outstanding value and could be opened now or aged according to your preference. Food pairing: red meats, pasta Flavor type: traditional Body type: medium-full Finish: elegant

I love a wine with a good backstory and this is a great example. Located between St-Julien and St-Estephe in the Haut-Médoc region of Bordeaux, Pauillac is home to three of Bordeaux’s five recognized first growths. Baroness Philippine de Rothschild, of the legendary Château Mouton Rothschild estate, created this collection to honor her ancestors, and dedicated this particular wine to Baron Nathaniel de Rothschild, who founded Mouton Rothschild in 1853. The grapes, grown in the famed soil of the Pauillac region, are aged in oak barrels for a taste of the legendary quality of an iconic region at a fraction of the price. With strong, dark fruit and nicely developed tannins, this wine is an outstanding value and could be opened now or aged according to your preference.
