Barons de Lafite Rothschild Reserve Speciale Pauillac 2009

Winemaker's Notes:

The 2009 vintage met the five conditions necessary for a great year in Bordeaux: homogeneous, early flowering and setting (early June) with hot, dry, sunny weather; an equally early start to the ripening process (“véraison”), beginning in late July, complete ripeness due a warm, dry August and September, and finally dream harvests starting late in September, in perfect weather conditions! The wines are of excellent quality, very pleasant on the nose and in the mouth, with ripe, silky tannins, good aromatic expression and a freshness in the finish that perfectly balances the sometimes high levels of alcohol. Colour: good intense purple. Nose: expressive and voluptuous, mingling aromas of dark berries (blackberries, blackcurrants), dried fruit (figs, almonds), spices and liquorice. Palate: full-bodied and flavourful, with silky, well blended tannins, powerful aromas and a fresh, spicy finish. A rich, full and nice wine.

This wine is incredible for the price. Very full bodied and beautifully balanced. Lots of heavy cherry and licorice flavors.

Nice secondary wine from a great producer. Did not expect too much and was pleased with the wine. though a bit light on complexity , there were nice aromas and mouth feel. Not a lingering finish. With the price under $12 it was a bargain, usually a good $5+ more.

Intensives, Bouquet mit blumigen Noten, sowie von reifen Früchten. Schöner runder Auftakt, eleganter und rassiger Abgang.

A Stellar Value Bordeaux from the Outstanding 2009 vintage! Winemaker Notes - Intense and aromatic nose, with powerful aromas of very ripe fruits (raspberry, blackcurrant) blended with notes of liquorice. On the palate, the wine is both full-bodied and powerful, with ripe and silky tannins.

The 2009 Lafite Rothschild is a candidate for "wine of the vintage." Although the 2003 was powerful (12.9% alcohol), the 2009 came in at 13.4% alcohol. It is a blend of 82.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Merlot, and the rest Petit Verdot. Only 45% of the ... Robert Parker's Wine Advocate.
