Barone Ricasoli Brolio Chianti Classico 2013

Winemaker's Notes:

Intense ruby red colour. Scents of small red fruit, vanilla and liquorice. The mouth shows a complex, but velvety fragrance and a long mineral aftertaste, typical of the territory.

For ten consecutive centuries, the property and the superior management of Brolio had always been maintained by the Ricasoli family, except for a brief period at the beginning of the seventies until 1993, in which the business was managed by outside companies. In 1993, Francesco Ricasoli took over control of his family's business and embarked on his project of the complete renovation of the entire estate. Large investments were made to restore the land and its original grape varieties (that have been in the estate for centuries) as well as for the winemaking facilities and cellars. The 500 acres of vineyards, all of which are located around the castle, have been completely replanted with two objectives: to reconstruct the personality of each vineyard according to ancient traditions and pursue the continuous role of producing excellent wine, which began in the 19th century, while incorporating a modern element. Today, the company is comprised of more than 2,400 acres, northeast of Siena, one of the older more southern parts of the Chianti Classico region. Fifty acres of which are olive groves as well as a section of forest where chestnut wood is grown and used in the vineyards throughout the estate. Read less

Dark fruit aromas of black cherry, plum and currant. Thick, fresh fruit bunches of ripe cherries, strawberries and blackberries with good acidity and friendly tannins providing support towards the chocolatey finish.

This luscious Chianti has a wonderful bouquet of ripe cherries, coffee and vanilla. Its Kirsch-like colour is followed by a teasing entry of sweet cherry, some more medium-weight coffee plus a pinch of anise. For a young wine from a dodgy vintage, very impressive and excellent value. 89 points.

This Chianti is a gorgeous rich garnet color when you pour. Luscious aromas of deep dark cherries and spicy rich coffee. The wine gives off a ripe sweetness that makes you ponder if it will have a similar taste. Well, no time like the present to check! An almost exact mimic of the aroma - sweet and exploding with overripe black cherries with a hint of peppery spice and licorice. Oh boy was I enjoying my first sip. My second sip brought more bursting cherries and a rich bold and smooth, velvety finish that stays with you for some time. Big fan of this outstanding Chianti. What an absolute treat for me.

Hint of dark cherry and earth on the nose. Moderate mouth feel. Dark coffee and chocolate fruit, finishes smoothly. Terrific with a simple calabrese bread and butter and lightly sauced linguine meal.

The 2007 Chianti Classico Castello di Brolio offers up rich textured dark fruit in a succulent style that is very appealing. French oak gives the Castello di Brolio notable volume and body in addition to an attractive smokiness that works quite nicely in this vintage. The Castello di Brolio can be enjoyed today for its forward fruit or cellared for another decade or so. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2020. -Antonio Galloni Robert Parkers Wine Advocate.
