Barone Fini Merlot Trentino 2016

External Review by We Speak Wine:

Background: Cultivating vineyards has been a family business since 1497 when two noble Venetian families united in marriage and began producing wine in northeastern Italy. Today, the Bonmartini-Fini family continues to manage this venerable property and produce DOC wines of the highest quality. Winemaking: Merlot grapes are 100% hand harvested from the northern banks of Lake Garda, Italy’s largest lake surrounded by mountains, providing terroir to create an elegant mountain Merlot. The only human intervention in production is controlling the fermentation temperature in stainless steel tanks and limiting skin contact. Vinified in an ultra-modern winery located atop the ruins of an ancient Roman winery, Barone Fini adheres to the highest standard in winemaking. Tasting Notes: Flavors of rich, ripe cherries and plums are enriched by the smooth, deep, well-structured background. A beautifully balanced wine with a long and velvety finish. pH: 3.6 TA: 5 g/L RS: 6.5 g/L Alc.: 12.9%

Vintage: 2010 12/19/2011

The Barone Fini family wine making history goes back six centuries and today is done in the most modern style. All of their wines are entirely grown and produced in the Trentino-Alto Adige region of Northern Italy and their hillside vineyards average 25 to 30 years of age. Following all the strict guidelines of the Italian DOC, grapes are all hand picked and sorted manually before fermentation. Crushing and fermentation take place in a state-of-the-art winery under careful temperature controlled conditions. This Merlot shows flavors of rich, ripe cherries and plums enriched by the smooth, deep, well-structured background. A beautifully balanced wine with a long, velvety finish.
