Baron Philippe de Rothschild Red Bordeaux Blend St. Émilion Mouton Cadet Réserve 2006
Wine Tasting Notes Intense red with purple highlights, the nose is bursting with fruity aromas and gentle spice. Powerful red and black fruit flavors of strawberry and black cherry highlight a well-balanced tannic structure. A fresh and succulent finish creates a round and smooth impression.
RiceSelect's fragrant Jasmati® is blended with eggs, milk and fall's favorite spices, cinnamon and nutmeg, to create a delicious rice pudding, which is layered on top of fluffy cream cheese and abuttery pecan crust. Pairs well with a bold, tawny port with flavors of dried fruits, nuts, and spices.
I thought this wine was fairly enjoyable. I found notes of cherry on the nose, with a nice red fruit flavour, as the label so eloquently describes. Generally, I recommend this wine as a nice accompaniment for dinner with friends. Especially at this price point, how can you go wrong?
I came across this 10 euro find while perusing at Enoteca Guerrini in my hometown of Rome. Brought it home to a homemade lasagna featuring, oddly enough, Ikea Swedish meatballs. The two hit it off well! I failed to pick up any cherry or fruity notes, and found it slightly dry and woodsy. My wife detects currant, but keep in mind that she put Swedish meatballs in Italian lasagna. I think I took the last bottle from Guerrini, but will continue to seek it out nonetheless.
I totally agree with Jonesa3. With this price point, its the finest with the the bordeax region. I'm from Vancouver, and I tried most, i mean MOST, of the the 10-30$ price range bordeax wine. Most of them aren't enjoyable, but where as Baron Philippe De Rothschild, is cheap, and enjoyable. I will for sure buy this everytime I look for French inexpensive red wine =)
For the price, you can't beat it. The bottles I've had in the States are good; the bottles I've had in France are better. Smooth and full with a very satisfying aftertaste. Not too acidic or fruity.
