Baron Philippe de Rothschild Red Bordeaux Blend Escudo Rojo 2006
Chilean wines can often be rather unsubtle, the fruit and the alcohol sometimesdisjointed. The Red Shield, to give a direct translation, is a masterpiece ofharmony and elegance, a new style New World classic. Escudo Roso represents anambitious venture of Baron de Phillippe Rothischild wines in the Maipo andRapel Valleys in Chile.
Wanted to try a Mouton from Chile. Quite similar to the Los Vascos (Lafite) in picking up green peppers and definitely a more vegetal wine. Not bad at it's price point.
Nice nose of chocolate powder and dried plums. There's a whiff of green peppers too, but it works well. Its fruity, rich and tasty, but there's still that vegetal note in it - overall it works. Nice, well priced, a lot of wine for the money.
well balanced fruit & spice. medium body harsh finish when opened, but diminishes after decanting good blend of cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc, carmenere

Took a while for this wine to open. Deserves the 88 points from WS. Nothing surprising about it. Price in Brazil R$ 95 or US$ 48.
Balances wine with great combinations of flavors, including a particular chocolate aroma
