Baron Philippe de Rothschild-les Cépages Cabernet Sauvignon Rot Baron Philippe de Rothschild Süd-Frankreich 07 2007

Winemaker's Notes:

Wine Tasting Notes The wine has a fine, deep red color, clean and brilliant, and a full, rich bouquet marked by berry fruit aromas. Round and well-balanced on the palate, it is both supple and generous, displaying great elegance and refinement. It has good aging potential and can be enjoyed for several years after the vintage date.

Baron Philippe De Rothschild:
Since 1933, Baron Philippe de Rothschild SA, located at Pauillac in the Médoc, has been motivated by a constant ambition: to make the world's finest wines, each in its own category, whether the châteaux wines for which it is responsible – the renowned Château Mouton Rothschild, a First Growth, and its distinguished lieutenants, Château Clerc Milon and Château d'Armailhac – or branded wines, lik... Since 1933, Baron Philippe de Rothschild SA, located at Pauillac in the Médoc, has been motivated by a constant ambition: to make the world's finest wines, each in its own category, whether the châteaux wines for which it is responsible – the renowned Château Mouton Rothschild, a First Growth, and its distinguished lieutenants, Château Clerc Milon and Château d'Armailhac – or branded wines, like the famous Mouton Cadet. Baron Philippe de Rothschild SA has also exported its know-how beyond Bordeaux: to the Pays d'Oc, with a range of varietal wines and, more recently, Domaine de Baron'arques; to California, with Opus One; and to Chile, with Almaviva. One of the key factors behind the company's undisputed success is the art of blending, which it practises with exceptional skill. Baroness Philippine de Rothschild, the majority shareholder of Baron Philippe de Rothschild SA, works closely with the executive directors to maintain, modernise and develop the family business. An on-trade only wine with an easy drinking style, but it didn't match with the Chargrilled Rosemary-Marinated Lamb fillet, served pink, with babaganoush to dip. OK with the lamb but the dip killed the wine.

Having read some very mediocre reviews of this wine both here on this site and elsewhere, I was hesitant at first to try this. When I did in fact try it, though, I was quite surprised at how much I enjoyed this Bordeaux. Smooth, dry and with an excellent finish, this paired well with a steak and mushroom dinner I had over the weekend. With Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc making up this wine, it was the latter two grapes that seemed dominant and made this wine very enjoyable.

Mouton Rothschild's everyday drinking white Bordeaux; dry, crisp and full of delicious ripe melony fruit flavors; an excellent choice with a lightly grilled chicken.

Dichtes Granatrubin.
