Baron Herzog Chardonnay 2005

Winemaker's Notes:

Untitled Document2005 Chardonnay, Russian River ValleyClub Price $20.00 - Regular Price $25.00Once again, this years chardonnay comes from one of Lee Martinellis premium vineyards in the heart of the Russian River Valley. Theres no better viticulturist than Lee Martinelli and fruit from the Laughlin Road vineyard is nonpareil. Our 2005 chardonnay, barrel-fermented and aged 10 months in French oak, exemplifies the qualities of this great terroir, an appellation renown for both its red and white burgundies.Heres a fruity, good-natured chardonnay, elegant yet playful, with an inviting nose of honeysuckle and vanilla. When chilled, flavors of melon, pineapple, and pear unfold on the palate and then give way to subtle notes of oak and vanilla in the finish. At warmer temperatures, the wine exudes hints of crme brulee, lemon, and honey, flavors that make this wine perfect with entrees such as veal scallipini, chicken piccata, or coquilles St. Jacques. Drink now through 2010.

Suggested Recipe Pairing presented by
Coconut Rice Sweet Potato Cheesecake

RiceSelect's creamy Arborio gets blended with sweet potato, coconut milk and vanilla to create this decadent cheesecake. Pairs well with Saunternes; a white dessert wine that has hints of coconut from aging in oak barrels.

Very heavy handed with the oak-like all of Baron Herzog's collection. The fruit is literally hanging on to the side of the oak barrel for dear life. Begging to be taken along for the ride. That being said, there is a pleasant smokiness on the nose, and some pleasant tropical fruit flavor on the palate.
