Baron de Ley Rioja Reserva 2007

Winemaker's Notes:

With an attractive red ruby color with medium-high intensity, in the nose it suprises for a powerful fruit remarkably blended with traces from its noble ageing: coconut and toffee, evolving into seductive nuances of spices and mediterranean bush. The attack is truly powerful and develops in the mouth a pleasant sensation of volume and onctuosity with drives us to a long finish, nervous and fresh due to its optimum acidity, and bringing back an aftertaste with red fruits and again mediterranean bushes.

With this objective, the creators of BARÓN DE LEY acquired the Imas estate, within the boundaries of Mendavia and on the left bank of the River Ebro. It is an exceptional place for growing vines due to its climatic conditions and the characteristics of its soils, on which 90 hectares of vines were planted. Read less

The 2007 Reserva is aged for 20 months in new oak, which is carried well on the mulberry and dark plum-scented bouquet. The palate is finely balanced with caressing, very plush, rounded tannins and a sorbet-like freshness towards the finish. This is a commercially savvy, nigh irresistible Rioja. Drink now-2016. (raised in new American and French oak): Bright ruby-red. Oak-spiced aromas of cherry and dark berries, with a strong vanilla overtone. Lush and open-knit, with warm cherry-vanilla and blackberry flavors and notes of coconut and mocha. Shows good power on the finish but I worry about the oak here.
