"Fontanafredda’s 2006 Barolo Vigna La Rosa is a juicy, forward wine loaded with wild cherries, smoke and tar, all of which come together nicely in a textured, decidedly fruit-driven style. The La Rosa shows excellent richness, harmony and depth, if not quite the pedigree of the very finest Barolos here. Still, I am curious to see what develops in bottle over the coming years, as there seems to be quite a bit of potential for the La Rosa to surprise on the upside...91+" WA 12/10

Fontanafredda is located in the heart of the Langhe, a world of hills dating backto very ancient times which has always been a prime growing area for great wines, particularly rich, powerful reds. Ourvineyards lie on mostly evenly-contoured hillsides and rounded ridges at an altitude of between 200 and 400 metres. The texture of the mainly calcareous soils can differ with in the space of just a few dozen metres: at times loose, with a sand content approaching even 50 at others firmer, with a higher proportion of silt, and above-all clay.
