Barolo Mirafiore 2007

Winemaker's Notes:

"The 2007 Barolo is a sexy, radiant wine that captures the essence of the year. Soft and inviting through to the finish, the Barolo possesses tremendous class and balance. Succulent red cherries, licorice, rose petals and spices round out the supple finish. This is another overachieving wine. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2022...This is another impressive set of wines from Mirafiore, the newly created spin-off of Fontanafredda, under which all of that estate’s best vineyards are now bottled. The house favors a bold, fruit-driven style even though vinification and aging are strictly traditional. Despite their richness and intensity, the wines possess superb balance, not to mention considerable personality. The success of the entry-level bottlings strongly suggests the Baroli will eventually be even better than these currently releases from the 2007 vintage. Oenologist Danilo Drucco told me he was inspired to recreate the classic style he learned under Beppe Colla at Prunotto, where he worked for five years before coming to Fontanafredda. Here’s to hoping he can pull it off. The first efforts are certainly encouraging...92."WA 10/2011
