Barolo DOCG Az. Agr. Cascina Fontana Piedmont 2005

Winemaker's Notes:

Berry Bros & Rudd review: 'More savoury red cherry perfumed than the darker fruited 2004, the 2005
vintage was characterised by a mild summer and the threat of rain at harvest
time. Mario's 2005 Barolo, a traditional blend of four vineyards Gallinotto,
Pozzo, Villero & Valletti, remains unflustered, a deliciously svelte,
delicate, gentle, supremely elegant & understated cherry stone wine that
captures the vintage perfectly, supporting his philosophy of blending vineyards
together to make one Barolo. Still primary, this wine will continue to unfurl
over the next 10 years, till 2020. Lamb cutlets would go well.
(David Berry Green, BBR Buyer)

Cascina Fontana is situated in the heart of the Barolo region, in Perno, in the commune of Monforte d’Alba, about 15 kilometres from Alba. The Fontana family has been winegrowers in the Barolo wine zone for at least six generations. Today winemaker Mario Fontana continues this tradition, overseeing the entire cycle, from growing grapes and tending the vines, to winemaking, bottling, maturation and sales. Mario and Luisa Fontana own and work four hectares of estate vineyards, dedicated to the cultivation of the classic grape varieties of Le Langhe: Nebbiolo, Dolcetto and Barbera. The vineyards are situated on some of the zone’s most favoured crus sites in the communes of Castiglione Falletto (Villero, Valletti, Pozzo), La Morra (Gallinotto) and Sinio (Vigna del Castello). Cascina Fontana is a wholly traditional wine estate that respects and follows the culture, traditions and history of Le Langhe. “My forefathers worked this land before me, and it is only thanks to their efforts that I am able to make the wines that I produce today.” You are welcome to visit us in Perno to taste, discover and purchase our Cascina Fontana wines: Barolo, Langhe Nebbiolo, Barbera d’Alba and Dolcetto d’Alba. Read less
