What to Expect
Nebbiolo is a fickle grape famed as much for its pale appearance as for its tannic character and produces some of the most perfumed and richly flavored wines. Though generally only medium-bodied, the wines possess rose and anise scented aromatics and deep flavors of cherry, orange peel and subtle green herb tones.
Winemakers Notes
[90 pts Wine Spectator] A subtle yet complex and perfumed nose with flowers plum and blackberry. Full-bodied with fine tannins and a polished texture. Delicately fruity and refined. More open than Vietti's big name single-vineyard Barolos. 2600 cases made.
Editorial Reviews
Nicely muscular with a big tar note up front then cherry in alcohol, dried herbs, sandy soil tones and soft dried rose and dried cranberry notes. In the mouth this starts off with considerable acidity before the fruit follows quickly enveloping the structure. Nice density with solid cherry fruit and a background medicinal tone adding complexity. Top notes of menthol and anise float gently out of the glass joining dried rose, tobacco, and leather tones. Another great Castiglione. 2013-2025 92pts

The entry was smooth, suave and sexy with sweet wild cherry and herb flavors only slightly marred by a hint of wood tannin that grew on the finish. This was mouth filling with excellent balance and finesse and wonderful clarity to the fruit so imagine my surprise when I revisited this and found it to be rather closed and almost mean with some oak showing and a slightly muddy, extracted feel. This shut down rather impressively with air so either drink this quickly or put it away and hope read more...
