AWE blind tasting - pretty closed, a really minerally core rocks, to the tight fruit here, this has potential, closed in the mouth as well but there is fine balance here if a touch dilute, nice core of extracted but traditional fruit, this is closed like a book and the pages are showing only their edges, but the book may turn out to be interesting, nice bitter cherry fruit, the finish shows hints of the ripe fruit with lots of menthol and sandalwood spice tones, a lot of potential for the vintage, 89-90

Scavino's 2004 Barolo Cannubi comes across as classic in its expression of violets, black cherries, minerals and sweet toasted oak. It offers gorgeous inner sweetness to its fruit, and is more focused and less concentrated than the other 2004 Barolos. This is a beautifully proportioned, vibrant Barolo that is sure to find many admirers.

Vintage: 2004 12/14/2008

An intense garnet red, lively and brilliant with a slight orange rim. Is nose appears candid, elegant and strong, evoking dog-rose, mint and tobacco that in time turn to fragrances of spices, coffee, liquorice and truffle with a leather and mineral finish. In the mouth it appears full, rounded, strong bodied and well balanced. It has a forward flavor of plum preserve and dried blackberry with a chocolate finish giving a harmonious and pleasant aromatic persistence. It is extremely affable in its first years, becoming austere with classic elegance and boldness as time goes on. It loves braised meats, game in wine and roasts and matured cheese, it goes well with sheep cheese and Parmesan cheese.
