One the nose, it's got spice, white pepper, dusty cocoa and some orange zest over red berries. Flavors on the palate of black cherry and cola with raspberry and rhubarb. Firm tannins, but a balanced feel. Bold and dark style with nice structure, acid and spice. 3/3/12

Winemaker's Notes:

Wine maker notes "Aromas of black cherry and white pepper spice pop out of the glass. More minerality, gravel and flint, is apparent on the nose this year. The pallet is more viscous and flavors of Asian spice and fresh plum come through, complemented by rhubarb pie and cherry blossom. The soft tannins are complimented by lively acidity." This was one of our favorite Pinots this year. Very deep and complex with tasting notes that favor black cherry with a nice dollop of spice, firm structure and an elegant texture - Masterful winemaking. Barnett Vineyards is located at 2,000 feet elevation on Spring Mountain in the Napa Valley where the fog comes rolling in every evening It is only a three letter word, but fog is the defining characteristic of the Russian River Valley appellation. The regular ebb and flow of fog originates from the Pacific Ocean a few miles to the West and enters the Valley primarily through the Petaluma Wind Gap and secondarily along the channel created by the Russian River that empties into the Pacific Ocean at Jenner. The fog arrives in the evening, frequently dropping the temperature 40 degrees from its daytime high and then retreats the following morning. This maritime air conditioner extends the growing season and allows grapes to reach full flavor maturity while retaining natural acidity.
