External Reviews for Barnard Griffin Riesling Columbia Valley
In 2008, owner and winemaker Rob Griffin, who consistently makes a delicious and amazingly affordable Riesling, benefited from one of the coolest vintages Columbia Valley has seen in decades. Griffin sourced the majority of the grapes for this wine from the north-facing Caroway vineyard planted in Horse Heaven Hills. The grapes enjoyed a long hang time without over ripening, helping the wine retain crisp acidity and a distinctive floral note.
Light, refreshing and off-dry, with pretty peach, pineapple and floral aromas and flavors, echoing enticingly. Nicely knit. Drink now through 2011.
The 2009 Riesling is light straw-colored with a pleasant nose of spring flowers, citrus, and baking spices. Dry and crisp on the palate with ample fruit, it is a good summer sipping wine at a very fair price.
Spice, apple, light peach and a gentle fruitiness characterize this Riesling. There are deeper notes as well, skin phenolics that add texture and earthiness. But fruit is front and center, with crisp acidity right behind it.
