Food Pairings for Barefoot Cellars Bubbly Rose' Cuvee Champagne
I bought the version that is white zin champagne on the label and I assume this is the standard-bearer for that style in the house. Anyway, just grabbed it thinking there's half a bottle left over and it will go with casual dinner of grilled pastrami and cabbage club sandwiches and a cheese plate. It wasn't the perfect pairing going into the grilled reuben style sandwiches but we didn't use any dressing on the reubens and just grainy Dijon from France. It didn't kill the wine, but close. However we were so happy to have a chance to taste some great blue cheese and a few other artisanal cheeses on the earthy side and this wine definitely did complement them, especially the blue cheese from BelGioioso and we had a couple other tastes of st. andre' and another hard cheese (a tomme, I believe) with peppercorns and truffles. We are about to break out some goat cheese medallions with black pepper seasoning and test this further just to finish but I can honestly say that for a nice accompaniment to a casual meal, appetizers or pub fare, this is very pleasant. I especially got a kick out of how this wine brought out more of the blueness in the blue cheese, if that makes sense. I really enjoy many of the sparkling wines from this house over the years and it gives an honest experience for the moderate buck. Would be happy to try some more varieties as I see now there is an extra dry champagne-style blend and a few new ones since the last time we really shopped around for the current bottle. Will be back, barefoot winery, so please keep the process going, and we look forward to the outcome.
