What to Expect

Barbera is one of the classic Grapes of Italy's Piedmont region, though it is popular throughout much of Northwest Italy and has gained a following in California. Searing acidity has been a trait of Barbera though modern viticultural techniques and warmer regions have tamed the acidity, resulting in medium-bodied wines with bright, red fruit tones that feature hints of violets, earth and plum with just a whisper of tannin.

Reviews

Regarded among his peers as one of the greatest vignerons in Italy, Domenico Clerico makes Barberas and Barolos of exceptional purity of fruit, concentration and harmony. The delicious Tre Vigne Barbera is exuberant, gorgeously scented, rich and juicy yet with a delightful spine of Italianate acidity.

JS: Aromas of blackberry and lemon peel, with just a hint of wood. Full and very velvety, with a long, long finish. This is a very serious Barbera. The best ever from Clerico. Drink now. 1,500 cases made.

Showing very mute tonight. My memories of this bottle included lush intense fruit on the nose and a full bodied performance on the palate but this is far from what I recall. Tonight's bottle showed some red fruit, cedar and quite a bit of heat on the nose. On the palate it shows some currant and vanilla with a drying, short finish. Possible bad bottle... maybe. But I honestly think it may just be going down hill or in a funky stage. Unfortunately this was my last bottle and so I was unable to experiment with another.
