Barbaresco Santo Stefano Riserva Bruno Giacosa 1985

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

Dark and fresh looking with good depth to the color. Spicy and intense licorice and limestone topped by smoky a bit of rotty strawberry, tea, tobacco, and ash. Very sweetly fruited yet attenuated in the mouth with a hollow mid-palate that fills out with air and gains a distinct camphor note. Over all a nice bottle but a touch muted and really just thin overall.

sweet perfumed nose of seared fruit and flowers over background notes of celery seed, rust and braised fennel that is exceptionally aromatic and precise. There is a subtle gaminess to the fruit on the palate which is sweetly fruited with wild raspberry fruit and hints of mica and fireplace ash. This is elegant and succulent though it seems to have suffered from less then ideal conditions at some point in its life. Still delicious 2009-2014 90pts

The colour of this wine was simply mesmerizing. Partially brick red but also very orange with glowing orange reflections that seduce a lover of Nebbiolo. This bottle delivered everything I ever wanted in Nebbiolo and more. The nose was very intense with forest, cantina, and ripe Taleggio cheese. On the palate it completely stuns you by throwing in some of the freshest and most delicious fruit with notes of raspberry liquor followed by layers of barnyard and a sprocking acidity! by the nose you would never expect such a healthy fruited wine, but it's in very good condition and can age some more years or be heavily enjoyed right now.
