Barahonda Tinto Barrica 2004

External Review by Prestige Wine & Spirits:

Spain has more vines planted than any other country and is a “gold mine” of wonderful and reasonably priced wines. Señorio de Barahonda was founded in 1925 and has some of the oldest Monastrell vineyards in Spain. In Yecla, there are hot days, cool nights and no rain. This wine, a blend of 70% Monastrell (a.k.a. Mourvedre) and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, was aged for five months in French oak barrels. The restrained packaging hides a delightful, full-bodied wine with deep, intense garnet color, aromas of plum, red raspberry and cassis, and flavors of plum and cocoa. It is juicy, rich and bright with balanced acidity, smooth tannins and a long, elegant finish. Enjoy this fragrant, delicious wine with bacon-cheddar burgers, grilled swordfish or pot au feu.

This wine, a blend of 70% Monastrell and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, was aged for five months in French oak barrels. Like its sibling (Barahonda Tinto) the restrained packaging hides a delightful, almost Amarone-like wine with deep, intense garnet color, aromas of plum, red raspberry and cassis, and flavors of plum and cocoa. It is juicy, rich and bright with balanced acidity, smooth tannins and a long, elegant finish.
