What to Expect

Sangiovese's claim to fame is its role as the heart of Chianti, Brunello and many Super Tuscan wines though it is gaining ground as a varietal wine around the globe. When grown in a suitable location the grape's soft tannins, succulent acidity and moderately intense cherry and herb flavors make Sangiovese very easy to drink as well as supremely versatile at the dinner table.

Winemakers Notes

Grape Varieties: Sangiovese, Canaiolo Nero, Cabernet Sauvignon

Chianti may well be the single best-known wine in the world - historically celebrated, universally revered and enjoyed over centuries. Produced from select grapes grown in the "Classico" region of Chianti between Siena and Florence, this aristocratic Tuscan wine has reached new heights in Banfi Chianti Classico Riserva. After aging two years in Slavonian oak casks, this elegant, well-balanced wine has flavors of vanilla, cocoa and spice.

An honored red wine, Banfi Chianti Classico Riserva read more...

Rating: 91/100 - As reviewed by Wine & Spirits Magazine on 04/09 There's an appealing earthiness under the ripe black cherry fruit in this wine. It grows more savory with air, gaining both freshness and length from the bright middle. Firm and balanced, it's a good match for grilled hanger steak.

Wine Tasting NotesIntense deep garnet-red color. Delicate aromas, with characteristic notes of plum, cherry, and a hint of leather. Supple tannins and a well-balanced structure. Enjoyable now, but with the potential for medium- to long-term aging.
