Ballentine Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon St. Helena Maple Lane 2005

Member Review by drdebs:

Amazing complexity, with intricate aromas of black cherry and fresh ground pepper. These notes follow through on the palate, along with an entire herb garden and spice cabinet of additional flavors, including vanilla, licorice, and mint.

Ballentine Vineyards:
Ballentine Vineyards focuses on red varietals; Zinfandel, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Syrah. Each vineyard supports our belief that it is vital to grow only those varieties that are best suited to particular aspects of the land; soil, exposure and climate. The grapes used for our wines are all 100% estate grown on 100 acres, from three distinct vineyards in the Napa Valley. Van Ballentine personally manages each vineyard.
Suggested Recipe Pairing presented by
Layered Rice Pudding

RiceSelect's fragrant Jasmati® is blended with eggs, milk and fall's favorite spices, cinnamon and nutmeg, to create a delicious rice pudding, which is layered on top of fluffy cream cheese and abuttery pecan crust. Pairs well with a bold, tawny port with flavors of dried fruits, nuts, and spices.

Black Cherry, blueberries, and cracked black pepper allemanate from the glass. This wine is fruit forward, but hasluscious layers of spice. Anise, sage, cayenne, vanilla, andlicorice all come into play. Very full on the palate with nicebalanced tannins, the wine engages all of the senses. Thesoft acidity and silky smooth finish let the wine's finishlinger for quite some time.
