2004 Ballast Stone, Shiraz, 90% Currency Creek and 10% McLaren Vale, South Australia.
100% Shiraz, 14.5% alcohol. Kentucky retail $16. Tasted 8/24/2008.

Deep dark purple in color. Some sediment adhering to the inside of the bottle and the bottom of the cork testify to how highly extracted this wine is. Blackberries, licorice, and eucalyptus are exhibited in the vibrant nose. Well-balanced for such a big wine, with loads of bright fruit. A nice long, though not terribly complex, finish with velvety tannins. It is drinking nicely now and would be a good match with grilled meats, or hearty stews. A very good value. The Raymond Rating = 89 points.
