Deep ruby color with hints of purple. Classic Cabernet aromas of rich red fruits, plum, tobacco, roasted coffee beans, and a touch of fresh mint. The aromas are echoed on the palate, with layers of fruit and spice pushing on and on. It’s a full-bodied wine that has incredible length and purity of flavor—it really keeps you coming back for more. Elegant varietal expression with balance,cassis, blackberry flavors (90% Cab. Sauv.), masterfully blended (note Pedro Marchevsky's influence here) with 5% Merlot and 5% Malbec. Some oak treatment that lends the sturdy Cabernet some structure, though not cloying or meddlesome, with loud, fake vanilla. This is artisan wine at a bargain, week-night red price.

Susana Balborsquo;s 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon Signature contains 5% Malbec. It was sourced from 31-year-old ungrafted vines and spent 15 months in 80% new French oak before bottling without fining or filtration. Medium purple in color, it sports an inviting nose of pain grille, pencil lead, spice box, violets, black currant and blackberry. Medium-bodied, supple-textured, layered, and spicy on the palate, it has excellent volume, savory flavors, and impeccable balance. Give this lengthy Cabernet another 2ndash;3 years of cellaring and drink it from 2012 to 2023.

The dark ruby-colored 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon which contains 15% Merlot was aged for 13 months in 80% new French oak and 20% second use French oak before bottling without fining or filtration (as are all three of these wines). It offers an alluring bouquet of pain grille, spice box, cassis, and black currant. This is followed by an elegantly-styled Cabernet with silky tannin, 2andndash;3 years of aging potential, excellent depth and concentration, plenty of savory fruit, and a pure finish. It will be at its best from 2010 to 2018.

Good full red-ruby. Complex, aromatic nose melds blueberry, plum, mocha, graphite and tobacco, complicated by mint, menthol and fresh herbs. Sweet on entry, then juicy, tight and fine-grained, with lively harmonious acidity giving the dense fruit a youthfully clenched quality. But with its fresh acidity and ripe tannic spine, this wine is sexy already.

This leads to a medium-bodied wine with a smooth texture, intense dark fruit flavors, and excellent depth. There is enough silky tannin to support 2-3 years of bottle age although it can be enjoyed now.Wine Tasting NotesIntense, dark ruby color with enticing aromas of ripe, black plums and black currants. The richly textured plum and currant flavors are joined by accents of dark chocolate and some vanilla-scented oak. The ripe, vibrant tannins give the wine beautiful structure and an amazingly long finish. This is a big wine for just a little money. Drink it now or over the next few years to enjoy the fruit flavors at their best. It will pair well with traditional Cabernet-friendly foods like grilled or roasted meats.

Bright ruby-red. Blueberry, cassis, menthol and mineral aromas lifted by spices and flowers; rather Bordeaux-like. Sexy and sweet in the middle but with firm acidity keeping the blackberry, menthol and spicy oak flavors under wraps today. This juicy, firmly built wine finishes with a serious backbone of tannins and acids. Its spine and restrained aromatics suggest holding it for two or three years of further development in bottle. An impressively energetic and classy cabernet sauvignon for this moderate price. Susana Balbo works with older vines and lower yields, preferring to use a relatively warm, extractive fermentation to make wines that will age; the wines she crafts under the BenMarco label are more user-friendly and designed for earlier consumption.

A very ripe, creamy style, with boysenberry and fig fruit, fruitcake and mocha notes and a long, licorice-filled finish. Fresh enough acidity keeps it honest. Drink now.
