Balbo Malbeck 2005
Really yummy. Not worth the money though.
Showing a comely touch of age in the color, the bouquet is a wonderful mix of smoke, cedar, and stone fruits; in the mouth, it reveals layers of flavor, getting deeper and sweeter towards a clean finish. (AV 92, http://argovino.com/?p=378)
Rich, full bodied, great with a steak!
External Reviews for Balbo Malbeck
Light in style, this malbec feels as refreshing as the cool winds of the Andes. Its pronounced herbal character mixes with sweet strawberry and violet aromas, the structure defined by crisp acidity. Enhance its beauty with venison in a cranberry sauce.
The dark ruby-colored, medium-bodied 2000 Malbec exhibits a great nose of black pepper-laced blackberries. Medium-bodied, it offers a beguiling panoply of red and black fruits as well as touches of mint. Its character, like Balbo's other wines in this report, would be more attractive if it were fleshed out and had a more supple finish. Projected maturity: 2005-2010.
Ripe, almost jammy, with creamy, soft layers of blueberry and boysenberry fruit followed by sweet toast and spice notes on the easy finish. Drink now.
With a tasty mix of red and blackberry fruit, this medium-weight Malbec also offers chocolate and sweet spice notes. Nice, mouthfilling texture and a juicy finish. Drink now through 2004.
On the chunky side, with grilled beef, brier and chocolate notes, and a firm, muscular finish that picks up a nice mineral note. Very solid, just lacks a bit of finesse. Contains 5 percent each of Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon. Drink now through 2004.
Good deep ruby-red. Complex aromas of plum syrup, cherry, mocha, tobacco leaf and mint. Silky, pliant and quite dry, offering a smooth texture allied to firm supporting backbone. The enticing red fruit, mint and dusty mineral flavors convey a strong sense of soil. Finishes fine-grained and classically dry, with lingering aromatic persistence and very suave tannins. An enticing, scented blend.
Good dark ruby-red. Musky aromas of dark berries, mocha and coffee. Broader and fatter than the cabernet but less sweet and less vibrant. In a more earthbound, chunky style. This is still a bit youthfully tight but I'd be more optimistic about this wine's future if it showed more high notes today. finishes with toothdusting tannins. The 2005 was similarly quite closed at an early stage.
