Bageiras Quinta Das Bairrada Garrafeira Branco 2011
Quinta das Bageiras is a boutique producer from Bairrada, is today one of the few wineries who is still in keeping with the region's traditions. Using only local grape varieties, Quinta das Bágeiras is keen to carry on maintaining the timeless practices of Bairrada. The red wines that are produced are made almost exclusively with the Baga grape variety and continue to be produced in open fermentation tanks (lagares) and aged in wooden barrels steeped in wine, rather than the more modern styles of using stainless steel. Even the white wines are made in a rare and mysterious way compared to contemporary practices as they are decanted into a series of small open fermentation tanks. Wines from Quinta das Bágeiras are known to be amongst the best in Bairrada and Portugal - terroir wines that are full of character with a unique identity and great aging potential.
Editorial Reviews for Bageiras Quinta Das Bairrada Garrafeira Branco
Fermented in 2500 liter wood barrel, on indigenous yeasts then aged in 1000 liter barrels where it is allowed to oxidize a bit. Waxy on the nose with gorgeous sage, citrus oil and faint vegetal and chalk aromas that are framed with hints of leather and pork fat. Bright on entry and with great fruit early on the medium bodied palate, this shows excellent depth of fruit, superb focus and good tension in the mouth. there’s a wave of late arriving complexity, savory and aromatic in the mouth that leads to a long, complex finish. This has excellent potential to improve in the cellar. A bit of a revelation. 92pts

made in the tradional Old-style Nebbiolo from 75 year old vines, this wine has notes of toasted walnut and coffee.
nice clean aromas of citris fruit, smoky notes, and an herbal undertone. this dry, medium body white emits flavors of lemon and lime with toasty smoke and white pepper notes.
