Badia a Coltibuono Chianti Classico Riserva 2010

Member Review by afinta:

The wine was a beautiful color in the glass - clear ruby to sapphire. I could't get much of the nose. A little light and thin in the mouth. Complex, refined flavors, cherries dominate but the fruit lags behind a bit - after it was open for a couple of hours there was a hint of juniper berry but it was fleeting. It did go well with the pork roast we had with it, but the alcohol prevailed too much for me overall. This wine spends 24 months in casks of French and Austrian oak of varying sizes, followed by a period of at least four months in the bottle before release. A nice wine but I wouldn't search it out again before trying others. About $30 US a bottle.

Vintage: 2008 10/23/2013

The 2008 Chianti Classico Riserva is gorgeous, especially for a vintage that was not easy. Black cherries, mint, licorice and tobacco are supported by firm yet well-integrated tannins and lively acidity, both of which should allow the wine to age gracefully for a number of years. The 2008 could still use another year or two to soften, but it is gorgeous, even today. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2018. (14.5% alcohol): Saturated red. Spicy nuances of bay leaf, oregano, and clove complement dark cherry and underbrush aromas. Suave and fine-grained, with lovely inner-mouth energy, this refined Chianti is savory rather than sweet, with flavors of dark fruits and minerals dominating. The long finish shows broad tannins and a suggestion of menthol austerity. Fresh, showing some maturing flavors of leather, macerated cherry and underbrush, with firm tannins for support. This tends toward the dry side. Drink now through 2018. 4,500 cases made. -BS

This is bright and fruity, with red fruit and a hint of aromatic bark. Medium-bodied, with fine tannins and a clean finish. A little lean. Drink now. 2,750 cases made. -JS Intense deep ruby red colour with shades of violet. Splendid olfactory intensity with hints of forest berries, iris, other flowers and spices. Warm and reasonably soft on the palate, the impact is elegant and very fresh, with mature tannins and a return to the flavour of floral, fruity notes. Very persistent with a generous aftertaste. - Winery ** Only 5 in Stock **
