Babich Black Label Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough 2017

Member Review by ericaswallow:

I could replace my morning grapefruit juice with this. Note: I actually drink orange juice in the morning, but if I drank grapefruit juice, I'd consider replacing it with this lovely wine. 92/100

I actually like the 2009 Babich Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc better. What's in a "black label" anyway? Would love this with a sandwich. 89/100

You'll notice ripe apples and a nose hinting of grapefruit zest combined with floral scents. The citrus / grapefruit flavor is more apparent in the mouth, but not overwhelming, with a touch of chalkiness and minerality. This wine holds a good body with some richness. It is dry with good acidity. This wine will pair well with fish, seafood, chicken... the usual suspects.

This is the best sauvingnon Blanc I've ever had, very pleasant passionfruit aromas with hints of tropical fruits. Unfortunately I can only purchase at resturants in Australia., not available through bottle shop retailers or via online purchase. Would go to extremes to get a dozen bottles. Debbie

Clear. Tropical fruit, lime. Nice complexity, crisp with lime finish. Not as acidic as 2005. Very good

Production Notes: After harvest the grapes were quickly crushed and pressed into stainless steel tanks where most of the juice was fermented at a range of temperatures to capture the intense varietal flavours. A small portion of juice was fermented in old oak barriques to contribute to the weight and complexity of the wine. After extensive tasting trials by the winemakers, the wine was then blended, finished and bottled. Tasting Notes: Elegant and intense nose - a dance of blackcurrant/passionfruit and complex smoky herbals. Textured and very long palate with exuberant, yet integrated, fruit. Citrus notes and flint add drive. Layered and powerful. Recommended Food: Can be enjoyed with a variety of food. Serve it with veal, seafood (brilliant with oysters) or a chicken dish such as a mild chicken korma with crispy popadoms. Alcohol: 13.0% TA: 6.3g/l pH: 3.17 Residual Sugar: 2.9g/l

The bouquet is an inviting mix of tropical, passionfruit aromas. Palate entry is luscious and lively, bursting with passionfruit. This is a fantastic example of Black Label Sauvignon that is equally enjoyable on its own and with food. - Winery Alcohol: 13.0% TA: 7.4g/l pH: 3.4 Residual Sugar: 3.7g/l

Winemaker Notes - The bouquet is an inviting mix of tropical, passion-fruit aromas with notes of musk and box hedge. Palate entry is luscious and lively, bursting with red current, gooseberry and passion-fruit, rounding off with a hint of capsicum. This is a fantastic example of Black Label Sauvignon that is equally enjoyable on its own and with food.

Bright and lively, with green pepper and herb character around a light core of lime and pear. Drink now.
