Azienda Agricola Eugenio Rosi Anesos 2006

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

This unusual blend of 60% Pinot Bianco, 20% Chardonnay and 20% Nosiola comes from a vineyard in the Vallarsa region to the west of Rovereto, hard up against the provincial border with the Veneto. Bottled unfined and unfiltered this funky white blend is the result of a blend of Chardonnay and Nosiola which spent about 5 days on the skins and Pinot Bianco that got a full 12 days maceration with the skins. The nose is clean with note of mint and earthy, smoky dried fruits but is still a bit tight and reticent. In the mouth there is a touch of tannin here though this medium plus bodied white has excellent balance and integration yielding a round, velvety mouthfeel. The flavors span the range from dried waxy yellow fruit, to floral, herbal, animal, mineral and nutty. This was sampled at cellar temperature and while drinking well might have been a touch more expressive if it was a degree or three warmer. Nonetheless this was long, complex, and layered with an earthy core of savory fruit melded with a fine, rich mouthfeel. Very compelling stuff. 93pts
