Aziano Chianti Classico DOCG Toscana Italy Red 2003
Popped and poured. Nose is light with strawberry and the tiniest hint of alcohol heat. On the palate I'm getting some nice tannins! CT says this is past its drinking window, but I'm not so sure. I think this may have a little more time in it yet. Solid tannic structure, still drying the mouth on the finish. Fruit is a bit subdued, so probably nearing its peak. Will let sit for a couple hours and report back once its breathed a bit.After 90 min. being open, getting serious aromas of fig. Flavors of berry and chocolate. Tannins are still very noticable. Impressive, given the $10 price. Nice QPR.

The 2003 Romitorio Tenuta di Santedame is easily the most interesting of these wines. A blend of 60% Colorino and 40% Merlot, it reveals complex, kaleidoscopic aromatics that develop beautifully in the glass leading to layers of sweet dark fruit, mint, herbs and toasted oak. Richly concentrated in the palate, it offers outstanding depth of expression and a long, sweet finish.
