Azamor Red Blend Vinho Regional Alentejano Selected Vines 2007

Winemaker's Notes:

The family-owned estate of Azamor was purchased by Alison and Joaquim Luiz-Gomes in 1998. Azamor is located in the region of Alentejo, near Estremoz in Southern Portugal, right across the border from the Spanish city of Badajoz. Known as the “bread basket” of Portugal, the Alentejo region is known as “one of Europe’s most dynamic wine regions…and one of Portugal’s most important red wine regions.” It is renowned for its consistency of good quality fruit driven wines. The Alentejo climate is known for its cold winters and hot summers. In the winter, the temperature can drop down to 0°C; in summer, it can rise to 43°C. Humidity ranges between 20% in the summer and 100% in the winter, with an average rainfall of 450mm per year. The 2006 Azamor is a blend of Touriga Franca, Merlot, Trincadeira, Touriga Nacional, Syrah Alicante, Boushet, and Petit Verdot. It is an exceptionally well rounded red wine with complex flavours on the palate and a smooth finish. The fruit is beautifully integrated and the wine finishes with lingering soft ripe tannins.
