Azamor Red Blend Vinho Regional Alentejano Selected Vines 2005
The family-owned estate of Azamor was purchased by Alison and Joaquim Luiz-Gomes in 1998. Azamor is located in the region of Alentejo, near Estremoz in Southern Portugal, right across the border from the Spanish city of Badajoz. Known as the “bread basket” of Portugal, the Alentejo region is known as “one of Europe’s most dynamic wine regions…and one of Portugal’s most important red wine regions.” It is renowned for its consistency of good quality fruit driven wines. The Alentejo climate is known for its cold winters and hot summers. In the winter, the temperature can drop down to 0°C; in summer, it can rise to 43°C. Humidity ranges between 20% in the summer and 100% in the winter, with an average rainfall of 450mm per year. Azamor 2005 is a well rounded red wine with complex flavours on the palette and a long finish. The fruit is well integrated and, the wine finishes with lingering soft ripe tannins. This wine has received minimum handling, and was only lightly filtered prior to bottling it may therefore form a natural deposit with time.
Azamor is a boutique family owned winery, dedicated to perfecting each vintage in its own personal style. The vineyard has been carefully nurtured from January through to the August Harvest, when the grapes are hand-selected and carefully transported in small boxes to the winery. With modern winemaking techniques and skill, Azamor aims to create wines that reflect the Azamor Vineyard adngrape varieties, to create the unique Azamor blends.
