Tasting Notes: Bright straw color. Aroma white flowers, fresh fruit, expressive, fine lees, dried herbs. Boca tasty, fruity, good acidity, balanced. Grapes: The Godello vineyards, planted in 1975, are grown on the slopes of the mountains, terrace system. Soil: The soil composition is metamorphic limestone, but you can see something of granite in other vineyards of this denomination. The strains are grown at 1350-1650 ft. (450-550 m) above sea level. Winemaking: Alistair Gardner, New Zealand winemaker, has created Avancia Godello of the indigenous variety of Godello, using the latest technology to express the best of this variety and land it comes from. The grapes are harvested by hand in small baskets to avoid damage to the fruit, to prevent damage to the fruit. Are selected only the best grapes. It is fermented in French oak barrels large (500-600L); the breeding process is 7 months and takes place in the same type of barrels. - Winery

(barrel fermented in large French oak and then aged in the casks for a further seven months): Pale gold. High-pitched aromas of candied orange, honeysuckle, minerals and candied ginger, along with an exotic note of curry powder. Bright, focused and concentrated, showing impressive clarity to its chalk-accented orange zest, vanilla and quince flavors. A note of toasty lees builds with air and adds depth to the long, incisive, mineral-dominated finish. For starters, I tasted two vintages of the Avanthia Godello, which is 100% Godello from a vineyard planted in 1975 at a whopping 450-meter altitude. The wine is barrel-fermented and aged in 600-liter French demi-muids prior to being bottled. (I actually purchased three cases of the 2010, and I'm down to my last five or six bottles after regularly drinking this wine over the last few months.) Just hitting the market, the 2011 is a more restrained, mineral-dominated wine with hints of crushed rock, white citrus, apple blossoms and caramelized lemons and limes. It is more medium-bodied in 2011 and not quite as full as the 2010, but because of that, many people might like it even more, thanks to the beautifully fruited and natural feel to this wine. - Robert Parker 90 Points

Powerful and distinctive, this bold, muscular white delivers a ripe core of pineapple, mango and honey, framed by toasty vanilla and exotic spices. The acidity is almost sweet, like a ripe Valencia orange, but keeps this rich wine balanced. Not typical, but impressive. Drink now through 2015. 400 cases imported. -TM The 2009 Godello was barrel-fermented and aged in large French oak for 7 months. Light gold in color (from the oak), it displays notes of melon, mineral, jasmine, and nutmeg. Smooth-textured with the oak fully-integrated, this impeccably balanced Godello is likely to blossom even further over the next 12-18 months and provide pleasure for another 5 years. Vivid yellow. Spice-accented citrus and orchard fruits on the nose, with a slow-building herbal quality and exotic notes of mace and anise. Sappy, palate-staining pear and Meyer lemon flavors are complemented by a smoky lees note and lifted by tangy minerality. Bright and expansive godello ...

Focused and assertive, this bold modern white delivers ripe fruit flavors of pear and melon, accented by toasty, minerally and waxy notes. Powerful and harmonious, with the stuffing to age. Drink now through 2012. 40 cases made. -TM The 2008 Avanthia Godello is the first release of this wine sourced from 35-year-old vines. Medium straw-colored, it offers up an attractive nose of mineral, baking spices, pear, and peach. Concentrated, spicy, and dry with exceptional fruit character, this nicely balanced wine will provide pleasure over the next 3 years. (From a terraced, slate-based site) Bright gold. Ripe, musky peach, pear and apple fruit aromas and flavors are complicated by flowers and herbs. Concentrated and sharply focused, conveying a dusty impression of extract and a late note of orange peel. Finishes with excellent cut and length, leaving talc-y minerals behind. ** SOLD OUT **
