Food Pairings for Avalon Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
This is a wonderful dry red wine, for the price. Beautiful dark yet crisp red/purple color. Dark, dry red cherry on the attack, then lots of earth, then plenty of oak and maybe a bit of juniper on the finish. Really dry-which I like. It is a nice change from the fruit-forward cabs that are so common to CA. Lots of alcohol on the attack if you don't let it breathe. If this wine were just a little bit more complex, I'd give it a five, but then I'd also be prepared to pay alot more for it. Will buy this again. It would go really nicely with the sweet/hot flavors of Indian or Thai food. Great bargain at around $10.

Too much alcohol just after opening. Blueberries and cherries to start, oak and dry leathery finish. Let this wine breathe 30 minutes, it gets much better.
Yummy. I'll buy it again and again and might buy a case now and then.

Winemaker Notes - Our 2009 wine exhibits aromas of raspberry, boysenberry, mint and ripe cherries. Vanilla, nutmeg and allspice notes from oak aging bring balance and frame the ripe berry flavors. The wine drinks smooth and supple with rich fruit characteristics. Napa Valley shows through with rted rasberries and quintessential Oakville dark cherries. Supple elegant and richly flavored in dark berries with a subtle note of oak; a classic Napa Valley wine.
The deep crimson color is the first indication of the wine’s depth. Our 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon exhibits aromas of blackberries, lingonberries, cassis and a hint of violets. Vanilla and freshly caramelized sugar notes from oak aging balance and frame the fruit flavors. Oak aging additionally adds breadth on the palate. Our 2009 displays a weight and depth unlike previous vintages. It is a direct reflection of the great- ness of the vintage. Napa flavors show through with red raspberries and quintessential Oakville dark cherries. The tannins are sandy and fine. As a group of us sit around and discuss this wine, someone describes it as a bit more femi- nine, another person as perhaps a “metro” wine. Alex reflects that the wine “has no holes” and has “critical length. It is a deep, brooding wine with weight fruity and style that opens up into a classic Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon.
