Love the vintage 2007. It is my go to wine at Wine Works when I'm on the run.
top wine for the money
Perfectly reasonable red with dinner, not too overbearing although FYI on the dry side
Over-oaked and too sour. Did not like this wine. 75 pts.
Overall very easy to drink. Soft velvety texture. Has long smooth finish leaving a berry-like finish. Vanilla and cream readily apparent.
very light for a cab. sweet and fruity. went well with apple pie. Not very complex, but pleasant. very easy to drink.
External Reviews for Avalon Napa Cabernet
From Robert Parker's "Value Issue": "This was a pleasant discovery during my recent tastings for this value report. The Cabernet Sauvignon Napa (50,000 cases produced) is a blend of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Syrah, Merlot, and Petite Sirah. Its dark ruby/plum color is followed by sweet aromas of black currants, smoke, damp earth, licorice, and spice. Medium-bodied and pure with silky tannins as well as a surprisingly long finish, it should drink well for 5-8 years. It has been at least twenty years since I have had a Napa Cabernet this good for under $15 a bottle." (08/08) Avalon makes only Cabernet, one dirt cheap wine with a generic "California' name place, another, well...pretty close to dirt cheap Cab sourced from a variety of Napa Valley appellations. Just Cabernet, so it's lucky for them (and for us) that they handle this favorite grape so very well. The Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is silky and ripe, with layers of cassis fruit and just a smidgen of both oak and tannin. A great Cab to have on hand during summer BBQs!
This brand new wine exhibits aromas of raspberry, blackberry, mint and black cherries. Vanilla and short bread cookie notes from oak aging bring balance and frame the ripe berry flavors. The tannins are fine and chalky, and there is also a mineral/earthy note to the wine that contributes to the multi-layer characteristics. A classic Napa Valley Cab and at a ridiculously fair price!
The 2010 vintage shows a big red ruby color. Aromas of red and black cherries and fleshy plums fill the glass. Oak aging adds a touch of vanilla and pie crust while also adding mouth feel and texture to the wine. The wine drinks of cherry tart, raspberries and boysenberry jam. Alex notes that this vintage has 'good freshness' and 'good acid'. The wine shows integrated tannins with mid-palate grip and a silky berry finish. In a nutshell, it's a juicy fruit forward wine with a great finish.
Ein fruchtiger, ausgewogener und nachhaltiger Rotwein. Rubinrot. Dezentes Bouquet.
This California Cabernet Sauvignon exhibits rich, slightly smoky aromas of cherries, boysenberries and chocolate. A minimum of eight months aging in French and American oak barrels softened the wine and imparted subtle notes of vanilla and spice.
Its dark ruby/plum color is followed by sweet aromas of black currants, smoke, damp earth, licorice, and spice. Medium-bodied and pure with silky tannins as well as a surprisingly long finish, it should drink well for 5-8 years.
