Avalon Cabernet Sauvignon 2010

This brand new wine exhibits aromas of raspberry, blackberry, mint and black cherries. Vanilla and short bread cookie notes from oak aging bring balance and frame the ripe berry flavors. The tannins are fine and chalky, and there is also a mineral/earthy note to the wine that contributes to the multi-layer characteristics. A classic Napa Valley Cab and at a ridiculously fair price!

From Robert Parker's "Value Issue": "This was a pleasant discovery during my recent tastings for this value report. The Cabernet Sauvignon Napa (50,000 cases produced) is a blend of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Syrah, Merlot, and Petite Sirah. Its dark ruby/plum color is followed by sweet aromas of black currants, smoke, damp earth, licorice, and spice. Medium-bodied and pure with silky tannins as well as a surprisingly long finish, it should drink well for 5-8 years. It has been at least twenty years since I have had a Napa Cabernet this good for under $15 a bottle." (08/08) Avalon makes only Cabernet, one dirt cheap wine with a generic "California' name place, another, well...pretty close to dirt cheap Cab sourced from a variety of Napa Valley appellations. Just Cabernet, so it's lucky for them (and for us) that they handle this favorite grape so very well. The Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is silky and ripe, with layers of cassis fruit and just a smidgen of both oak and tannin. A great Cab to have on hand during summer BBQs!

Pours a deep purplish ruby, and has aromas of bing cherries and a whiff of graphite and cocoa. It is a rich deeply flavored Napa Valley Cabernet, with a mouthcoating texture and terrific structure, especially for such a reasonably priced wine! It finishes strong with rich berry flavors and silky smooth tannins. This is one of the best value priced Napa Cabs I have ever had!
