What to Expect

California's Napa Valley has been a source of world-class Cabernet Sauvignon for well over a century. Its warm climate and varied terrain allows for many styles of wine. One thread that runs through almost all the Cabernet based wines from Napa is their lush, ripe full-bodied feel and rich flavors of currant and berry. Wines from the valley floor, particularly around Rutherford, are famed for a dusty quality and those coming from the hillsides surrounding the valley, Mt. Veeder, Diamond Mountain and Howell Mountain for example, tend to be a little leaner with more obvious structural elements.

Winemakers Notes

There’s nothing quite like waking up to floods on New Year’s Eve day to start a year. Rains flooded Northern California and the rest of the state and continued long enough to delay bud break. Then, as if written in a movie script, warm summer days helped move grapes into a normal harvest timeline.

Cooler days in August and September let the grapes hang and fully develop ripe, rich flavors. Harvest stretched into late October and never pushed winemakers with too much fruit on the crush pad. Slower days gave Winemaker Alex Cose greater opportunities to get the most out of every lot.

A BEST BUY FROM ROBERT PARKER! - Staff Selection! ""Rutherford and Oakville fruit, very cherry with some subtle vanilla and cedar notes. Great everyday quaffer, nice with red meats or by itself."" - Staff Notes - ""Rich Napa style with blackberries, plum and cherry fruit, finishing with a touch of caramel from oak aging. Napa quality at a reasonable price."" - Winery Notes

Its dark ruby/plum color is followed by sweet aromas of black currants, smoke, damp earth, licorice, and spice. Medium-bodied and pure with silky tannins as well as a surprisingly long finish, it should drink well for 5-8 years.

Clear bright red, notes of anise, bacon, flowers, jam and super cherry. Slight hint of oak and vanilla. Obvious tannins with tart jammy acid. You really could do better on a weekday wine. Keep it under 10$ at all times with this one.

I'D AVOID AERATION. It kills whatever little it has going for it. Becomes overtly fruit forward, too round and flabby. It destroyed the tannins when I did it. Which leads me to believe this wine will get flabby over time on it's own right in the bottle.

Decent aroma in steam. Still a little bit cheap in the structure.

Scents of cherry and tobacco. Sour cherry, smoky, and a bit of mocha. Has a dry, tart finish.

Pours a deep purplish ruby, and has aromas of bing cherries and a whiff of graphite and cocoa. It is a rich deeply flavored Napa Valley Cabernet, with a mouthcoating texture and terrific structure, especially for such a reasonably priced wine! It finishes strong with rich berry flavors and silky smooth tannins. This is one of the best value priced Napa Cabs I have ever had!
